Theodore J. "Arkie" Thomas, Frankfort,
Kansas passed away Thursday, November 2,
1989 at the Frankfort Community Care
Home. He was eighty-two years old.
He was born October 11, 1907 at Sweet
Spring, Missouri, the son of Matthew and
Ada (Simms) Thomas. He moved with his
parents to Elkhart when he was one year
old and attended grade school in Elkhart.
he moved to Springfield, Colorado where
he graduated from high school. He then
attended barber college in Fort Worth,
Texas.
Arkie opened his first barber shop in
Dallas, Texas, sixty years ago. He later
owned and operated barber shops in
Missouri before moving to a farm near
Bigelow, Kansas in March 1946. He
farmed and operated a barber shop in
Frankfort, Kansas until about 1983 when
he retired.
He was united in marriage to Delphine
Nuzman on January 1, 1940 at St. Jouis,
Missouri.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Frankfort, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Delphine on March 31, 1988. A son, James
Thomas was killed in a car accident in 1966
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs.
Joyce Ann Rethmann, Thornton, Colorado
and Janet Sue Preston, Greeley, Colorado;
a son John Thomas, Frankfort, Kansas;
three sisters, Carrie Trent, Sweet Springs,
Missouri, Helen Cox, Chillicothe, Missouri
and Lorene Nall, Booneville, Missouri, a
brother, Luther Thomas, Lompoc,
California; ten grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 4, 1989 at the United
Methodist Church, Frankfort, Kansas with
Reverend John Burgreen officiating.
Mrs. Eunice Samuelson, organist
accompanied Mrs. Lorene Shearer as she
sang "Amazing Grace How Great Thou
Art" and "Holy City."
Serving as pallbearers were Paul
Holenbeck, Bob Jones, Hank Sisk, Joe
Robinson, Willard Tilley and Matt
Rethmann.
Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
