Born in Ohio, one of two sons of Eli and Olive Beebe. The family was living in Butler County, Iowa according to the 1860 U. S. Census. Henry enlisted as a Private in Company K, 8th Iowa Infantry on November 21, 1864. Mustered out of Federal Service on November 20, 1865 at Montgomery, Alabama.
