Asta was adopted from a pet rescue. I remember the first night that he came home. He had been so neglected that he kept fetching and bringing back a toy bone all day and night. He would even wake me up so that I could throw his toy. He really loved my wife Jane and would actually growl at me if I playfully slapped her. He hated to be groomed and bathed and would wine at me throughout the entire procedure. We named him Asta from the old "Thin Man" series with William Powell and Myrna Loy and their cute little dog, "Asta." If you were lying down on the sofa, Asta would immediately jump up beside you and snuggle before falling asleep. I already miss the sound of his toe nails on the hardwood floors and his begging for food. He loved to visit the farm of my in-laws and that is where his is buried beneath and old pine tree near a pond filled with lily pads. Unfortunately Asta was stricken with a severe skin problem and this became so serious that he was in constant pain and anguish. Medication, special diets and shampoos did not relieve this condition. We had to take Asta to the vet today and have him put to sleep after the vet agreed that this was the best course of action. We have shed many tears today over this lovable character and we hope that others will visit and get to know our "Asta."
Rest In Peace Dear Companion and Protector.
We will always love and remember your spirit.
