Mrs. May Camp, widow of the late Newton F. Camp of Staunton, passed away Saturday night at 11:54 o'clock at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, following an illness of about 11 days. She was aged 87 years and 2 months.

Mrs. Camp, whose maiden name was Backman, was born in Kansas on May 2, 1873. She grew to womanhood there, and on June 1, 1893, she was united in marriage with Newton F. Camp, grandson of one of the earliest settlers of this vicinity, the ceremony being solemnized in St. Louis. They came to Staunton and made their home on the Camp homestead at the west edge of Staunton. No children were born to the union. Mr. Camp died on Jan. 1, 1954.

The body lay in state at the Fritz Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Assembly of God church, with Rev. N. G. Mathenia, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mrs. Camp is survived by a niece, Mrs. Gladys Fischer of Alton, and a nephew, Bud Carleton of East Alton.
