Anita Louise (Kirby) Bissett, 70, of Brownfield, Texas passed from this life on October 18, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends. Memorial services were planned for October 25th at the Brownfield Church of Christ, where she was an active member for many years. Bo Shero and Bob Reynolds officiated and singing was lead by her son, Todd Bissett.

Nita was born in San Angelo, Texas on July 3, 1944, the daughter of Harold Wright Kirby and Louise Veronica (Engling) Kirby. She grew up in Monahans, Texas and graduated from Monahans High School. She attended Lubbock Christian College and Abilene Christian College, where she earned a bachelors degree in speech therapy. She married the love of her life, Geoffrey Chase Bissett, on June 24, 1972 in Monahans. Together they had three children: Clayton Chase Bissett, Jerry Todd Bissett, and Kaela Rene’ Bissett Brown.

She loved crafts of all kinds, especially knitting, which she learned at the young age of 7. She was an avid sports fan, with a special affinity for football and baseball. She loved the Chicago Cubs and was elated when the “W” flag was flying! She used her knitting skills to bless others by knitting baby hats for neonatal intensive care units and scarves for Special Olympians. Nita also made hats for the “Look Good Feel Good” room at Joe Arrington Cancer Center in Lubbock and afghans for the Thomas E. Creek VA Hospital Hospice Program in Amarillo.

Nita was fluent in American Sign Language, which she learned in order to lead deaf people to Christ. She was active in teaching others sign language in Brownfield, as well as in Lubbock. She regulary attended deaf worship at Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock. She taught many children sign language for the Leadership Training for Christ program.

Family was everything to Nita. She was preceeded in death by her granddaughter, Isabel Rene’ Brown, her brother, Jerry Wayne Kirby, and both of her parents. Survivors at the time of her passing include her husband of 42 years, Geoff Bissett, Clayton and wife, Dianna of Rochester Hills, Michigan; Todd and wife Rachel of Plainview, Texas; and Kaela and husband Brody Brown of Amarillo, Texas. Her 7 grandchildren were the light of her life: Karlee Kay Bissett, Brooke Amber Bissett, Dawson Ray Bissett, Benjamin Chase Bissett, Sawyer Rene’ Brown, Adyson Legh Bissett, and Michael Francis Bissett. She is also mourned by two sisters, D’Lyla Kirby of Abilene and Teena Hall of Amarillo, sister-in-law Carolyn Kirby of San Angelo, brother-in-law Scott Bissett and wife Lynn of Denton, Texas. She will be missed by many nieces, great nieces and nephews, who were very important in her life.

The family asks you to consider donating to Nita’s favorite charities: American Cancer Society, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, or Camp Blue Haven.
