"Aged 98 years, 7 months, and 8 days." There is also a government marker reflecting that Richard Simms was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, fighting with the 3rd Virginia Militia. This marker was erected by the Alexander Doniphan Chapter D.A.R. in October 1912.
