Musician. He is remembered as an early 19th-century Austrian composer, conductor, music teacher, and pianist. Born Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart, he was the youngest of six children of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the prolific and influential composer during the Classical period, and his wife Constanze, and was one of the two sons who survived to adulthood. Impacted by his father's style of music, his professional name was W. A. Mozart Sohn, or "son of W.A. Mozart." He began his piano studies early and by 1802, published his first composition. In 1805, he made his debut in Vienna in a concert at the Theater an der Wien. He started teaching music in 1808. In 1813 he relocated to Lemberg, where he spent 25 years teaching music and performing concerts. From 1819 to 1822, he made extended artistic tours throughout Europe, including the cities of Berlin, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Prague, Venice, and Salzburg. He relocated to Ukraine and established the St. Cecilia Choir in Lviv in 1826, remaining for ten years. In 1841 he was named the honorary music director of the Salzburg Cathedral Music Society and of the Mozarteum and performed in 1842 to honor his father. Not having his father's outgoing personality, he performed in his famous father's shadow his entire career. Like his brother, he was unmarried and childless. His brother abandoned music for a business career. He was never considered a great among European composers, but nevertheless, he left a legacy of baroque classical music. His piano compositions were published in two volumes.
