William moved from Albany, Berks County, Pennsylvania to Seneca County, Ohio. There he married Rebecca Kleckner/Cleckner and started a family. In 1853, the family moved to Fulton County, Ohio, near Burlington (now known as German Township). A few weeks later, William had an accident while cutting wood. He died as a result of gangrene in the wound.
Those who were left to mourn his loss were his wife, Rebecca (Kleckner), and eight children.
Mary Ann, Andrew Jackson, Amanda Jane, Rebecca, John, Daniel A, Emaly and Amelia.
All of William's sons served in the Civil War. John was in the 10th Ohio Cavalry. Andrew Jackson and Daniel served in the 195th OVI, Co. D.
His son, Daniel A., was the last living Civil War veteran in Ohio when he died at the age of 104 yrs, 4 mos, 23 days in Wauseon, Fulton County, Ohio.
