Oldest Woman In The State - Death of Mrs. Lucy Edwards, Colored, Reported to be 120 Years Old. - Probably the oldest woman in Illinois, Mrs. Lucy Edwards, colored, died in this city yesterday at the age of 120 years. Her death occurred from old age at the home of her son-in-law, Anthony Shipp, at Fifteenth and Reynolds streets at 4 a.m. Mrs. Edwards was born in Henry county, Virginia, in 1774. She lived there until she was an old woman. She moved to Lincoln county, Missouri, forty-six years ago, and lived there forty years. She has lived in Springfield six years.
Three children are said to survive her, the youngest, Mrs. Shipp, claims to be 87 years of age. She is also survived by seven grand children and thirty-seven great grand-children. The funeral will take place to-day from Zion Baptist church.
