Ellie and I are related through our great-grandmothers, who were sisters. She was physically and mentally handicapped, but never lost her positive spirit, or love of singing. She appeared several times on the Jerry Lewis Telethon in the 1960s. Occasionally, my parents would offer to take care of her and her brother Angelo for the weekend to give her parents a much needed break. My dad would lift Ellie into the bathtub and I would bathe her. Then he'd lift her back out again and I'd put on her pajamas for her. She slept with my sister and I. We would often sing together. We had a lot of fun. Rest in peace, Ellie!
