OBITUARY - CUNNINGHAM, THOMAS 1842-1909 "THOMAS CUNNINGHAM HAS PASSED AWAY Died after Lingering Illness at 9:30 O'Clock Tuesday Morning Was Respected Resident of Bismarck Where He Has Lived Since the Year 1881 Thos. Cunningham died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Ryan, in this city at 9:30 Tuesday morning. Mr. Cunningham had been ill for about eight months and his death was caused by a complication of diseases and was hastened by tuberculosis, from which he had been suffering recently. James Cunningham was born in New York state in 1842 and moved to Bismarck in the spring of 1881, where he had followed the occupation of stationery engineer until he retired from active life about six years ago. He was a member of the J.P. McPherson Post, G.A.R., and was affiliated with St. Mary's Catholic church and was one of the respected pioneer residents of the state. He is survived by his wife and five children; Leo Cunningham of Bismarck; Charles Cunningham of Dickinson; Katie Cunningham of Spokane and Margaret Cunningham and Mrs. Elizabeth Ryan of Bismarck. A brother, John, is in the city from St. Paul, and will remain for the funeral services which will be held from St. Mary's Catholic church this morning at 9:30. The G.A.R. Post will attend the services in a body. A large circle of friends and acquaintances of the family extend their sympathy to the bereaved family in their great affliction.
