Dixmont – William Isaac Sanford Erskine, 90, died Wednesday night January 18, 1984, at a Waterville hospital following a long illness. He was born in Easton on March 31, 1893, son of James and Annie (Bangs) Erskine.

He had been a resident of Dixmont for over 60 years where he was engaged in farming and had owned and operated a forestry business. He attended the Dixmont Corner Church and was a past master of the Plymouth Grange. He was a member of the State Grange and the Dixmont Gold Crest Riders Snowmobile Club.

Mr. Erskine was predeceased by his wife, the former LaVon Edminster, who died in 1974 and by two daughters, Pauline Erskine who died in 1932 and Eunice Norris in 1972.

He is survived by five sons, Lawrence of Newport, Roger, Elton, James and Robert, all of Dixmont; one daughter, Esther Winship, of Unity; one brother, Amos of Camden; two sisters, Eva Coffey and Gladys Lamb both of St. Petersburg, FL; 30 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 pm at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield, where friends may call today from 2-4 and 7-8 pm.
