Businessman. He was the founder of the National Wrestling Alliance in 1948 and served as president for 25 years. Considered the dean of wrestling promoters, he also founded the St. Louis Wrestling Club in 1958. He was elected to the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2003. Before becoming involved with wrestling, he was a sportswriter in St. Louis, where he reported on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. In addition, he produced the television program "Wrestling at the Chase."
