Rachael Callantine Bullard, 91, died Thursday at the Madera Convalescent Rehabilitation Center in Madera, Calif.

She was born in Spring Valley, Minn., January 5, 1901, to Marion and Susie Gates. She and her parents moved to Montana where they homesteaded near Rapelje. After the death of her mother when she was 2 years old, she was raised by an aunt in South Dakota. She later returned to Bozeman and graduated from Gallatin County High School.

She married Ellis J. Callantine March 15, 1921 in Powell, Wyo., and they lived in Bozeman. Callantine died Sept. 9, 1936, and she remained in Bozeman, working as a cook and volunteering her time as a nurse's aide.

She married Walter Bullard in May 1947 and they lived in Billings until 1976 when they moved back to Bozeman. They moved to Madera in 1982 and her husband died in 1978.

She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge of Billings. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bozeman. Her main interests were gardening and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; by a daughter, Ursula Chamberlin; a sister, Margaret Willard; a grandson, a half brother and a half sister.

Surviving are daughters Lorraine Russell, of Madera, Margaret Mattila, of Bozeman; Winifred Ward, of Belgrade; a son, Ellis Callantine, of Bozeman; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman. Memorials in her name may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
