R. Dean Barber dies at 93

Raleigh Dean Barber, 93, a resident of Colonial Manor, died at Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City April 22, 1983.

He was born June 4, 1889, in Williamsfield, Illinois, the son of John and Mary Ellen Fields Barber. He married Eunice Stout April 2, 1926 at Havelock, Iowa.

Mr. Barber was a veteran of World War I. He had been a barber in Wilton, West Liberty, Nichols, Conesville, and Columbus Junction.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Oliver of Dana Point, California and Mrs. Lois Bliven of Columbus Junction; two sons, R. Dean Barber of St. Petersburg, Florida; twn grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Faris officiating. Donna Belle Hughes was organist. Casket bearers were Kirk Bliven, Tom Riley, Michael Barber, Lyle Spitznogle, Kent Bliven, Kyle Bliven and Robert Gabriel. Burial was in Columbus City Cemetery.
