Private, Company L, 358th Infantry, 90th Division. Son of Charles and Grace Austin; born October 8, 1889 at Altona. Entered the service April 29, 1918 at Galesburg; to Camp Dodge; transferred to Camp Travis May 19, 1918; overseas June 30, 1918; 80 days in the trenches; in the major offensive at St Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne; discharged June 14, 1919.

Perry S Austin, 89, of rural Altona, died at 6:55 PM Sunday in Kewanee Convalescent Center, where he had lived five and a half years.
He was born October 8, 1889, in Knox County. He never married.
Surviving are two brothers, Edgar C and Charles R, both of Altona; and two nieces.
He received his education in rural Knox County schools, graduating from Altona High School. He attended Brown's Business College, Galesburg. He served with the infantry in World War I.
He was a member of the United Church of Altona and the Ekstedt-Hurr Post 380 of the American Legion, Altona.
Funeral services will be at 3PM Tuesday in the Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel, Galva, Rev. Stanley Rapp of the United Church of Altona officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Altona American Legion Post.
Friends may call from noon Tuesday until time of the service.
Memorial may be made to his church, the family said.
