Bertha Irene Chesterfield, 78, died Saturday at her home in Manhattan.

She was born at Clark, South Dakota, on October 26, 1904, to Charles and Ida May (McElmurray) Mackey. She was educated at Elrod and Tulare, South Dakota schools, graduating from Tulare High School. In 1926, the family moved to Grass Range.

In 1938, she married Paul S. Chesterfield. The couple lived at Trident until his death in 1949. She then moved to Manhattan to live with her two sons.

A member of the Presbyterian Church, her life was devoted to her family, her friends and to God.

Survivors include two sons, Burton Paul Chesterfield and his wife Diana of Mustang, Oklahoma and William Arthur Chesterfield and his wife Corinne of Missoula; one sister, Mrs. Albert (Ethyl) Clark of Cutbank; four brothers, Lloyd H. Mackey of Olympia, Washington, Howard W. Mackey of Billings, Burton C. Mackey of Mesa, Arizona and Clarence R. Mackey of Helena; four grandchildren in Oklahoma and Missoula, three cousins in Iowa and a community of loving friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel in Bozeman. Burial was at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
