Linda truly enjoyed the nursing profession, her patients, and the people with whom she worked. Her greatest joys were working with babies, younger patients and the elderly.

She felt a great attachment to all those she served. She hoped to go on in her practice for many more years. Her time with us was cut short by a boating accident while fly-fishing on the Yakima River.

Linda received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Montana State University. She was Public Health Nurse in Whatcom County until she returned to school for her Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner degree which she received from The University of Washington. For the past 16 years she worked at Squalicum Family Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner with Dr. Harry Herdman. She was a founding board member of the Womencare Shelter of Whatcom County. She had also been a volunteer with the Whatcom Crisis Clinic and had served as the secretary of the Emergency Medical Services Council of Whatcom County. Linda had also been a CPR instructor with the Emergency Medical Technician Association.

Outside of her profession, Linda also touched the lives of many people. Those who knew her know of the joy with which she approached life. At various stages of her life she was a mountain climber with the "Fun Sisters", had been a volunteer mountaineering instructor with the Whatcom County Parks Association, was on the Mount Baker Ski Patrol, and was very active in the Fourth Corner Fly Fishers. She enjoyed camping trips with her son Mark, the time she spent with her daughter Tara and grandson Colin, and fishing with her father. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her children. She greatly enjoyed the camaraderie she shared with her book group. She enjoyed her beading, stained glass work, gardening orchids, hunting for agates on the beach, hiking, camping, bird watching, and traveling. She also enjoyed art & music. She is survived by her son Mark Speakman, daughter Tara Anderson, grandson Colin Anderson, her brother Warren (Buddy) Skinner and sisters Bonny Bianchi and Elaine Hale, and her favorite aunts, Marge Skinner and Erlice Fonk. She will be deeply missed by her partner, Joe Kelly, three adored kitties, Oscar the Grouch, Nellie the Princess and Kietze the Fuzz Ball, and all the others who held her dear.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held at Northwood Hall in Bellingham from 2PM until 5PM on Sunday May 1. The eulogy will be presented at 2:30.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Womencare Shelter of Whatcom County or the Whatcom Center for Early Learning.
