William Barham "Bill" Skinner, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at the Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman of natural causes.

He was born January 23, 1919 in Whitehall, the son of Glenn and Christine Barham Skinner. In 1925 the family moved to the Gallatin Valley where his father farmed. Bill attended most of his school years at the Heeb School.

Bill joined the Army Air Corps at the outset of World War II and served the duration of the war in the European and North African theater of operation. He was awarded five battle stars and a bronze arrowhead.

He married Rozella Sherman on June 2, 1946. They farmed in the Dry Creek area for several years, later moving to Manhattan. Bill worked at the Ideal Cement Company (Holman) at the Trident Plant for 30 years until health problems forced him to retire. He was active for many years in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Manhattan Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include daughters; Linda Sherman of Bellingham, Wash., Elaine and husband Johnny Hale of the Paradise Valley south of Livingston, Bonnie and husband Don Bianchi of Belgrade; son, Warren (Buddy) and wife Lisa Skinner of Kenia, Ark.; by 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; brothers: Wallace of Three Forks; Paul and wife Florence of the Dry Creek area; sisters: Erlice Fonk of Bozeman, Marjorie Skinner of Manhattan, and Ruth O'Connell of Helena. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Rozella in 1973.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow in the Meadowview Cemetery, Manhattan. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
