American Screenwriter and Writer. She was best known for writing the screenplay for 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial' in 1982, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Among other screenplays she wrote were 'The Black Stallion' (1979), 'Son of the Morning Star' (1991), 'The Indian in the Cupboard' (1995), 'Kundun' (1997) and 'Ponyo' (2008). From 1983 to 2004, she was married to actor Harrison Ford, with whom she has two children. Mathison died after a prolonged illness.
