Later, sometime just after 1930, the remaining brothers (Anthony John Patrick Doemer died in 1928 of Pneumonia) started a new business known as Doemer Brother's at 1254 Michigan Avenue which operated until some time in the early to mid-1960's. Anthony [father] carried a bullet in him until his death. The story, as it was passed down, was that Anthony was walking home on the Fourth of July when some over zealous young men who were firing pistols to celibrate hit Anthony. For reasons unknown, they never removed the bullet. Anthony [father] died of an inflammation of the heart. Anthony was known as "The Candy Man".
