Charles Merriman was my 2-ggrandfather. Husband of Paulina Burbank. Father of Charles , Zachary, George, Paulina, and Fremont. He was born in the state of New York, possibly Otisco. He immigrated to Wayne, Michigan, in the early 1840's. In 1847 he married Paulina Burbank, daughter of William Burbank and Angelica Baron of Ecorse, MI. Charles bought land for a farm in 1858. From this land he started his farm that he "carved out of the wilderness". He was one of the first pioneers in the area. On May 7, 1860, he bought another parcel of land, but died two days later of appendicitis. The farm stayed in the family until the 1920's, after the death of his son, my grandfather, Zachary Merriman. The first photo is of the area where his farm was located. Merriman Road runs thru many Detroit western suburbs.
