George and Elizabeth were communicants of old St. John's church in Richmond, and their children were baptized there.
George Howard built a very attractive brick home at 2224 Venable Street abt 1819. The area was then in Henrico County near what was called 'Racefield.'
During the War of 1812, George volunteered at Richmond in March of 1813 as a Private in the Second Regiment of Virginia Militia and marched to Norfolk to oppose the British. He was discharged at Camp Holly near Richmond on February l8, 1815.
George married second, Sarah Roberts, on April 2, 1838. The marriage was performed by Reverend Philip Courtney in Richmond. Sarah was born in 1809 in England, and was buried in Shockoe Cemetery on January 28, 1897, beside George.
George died October 27, 1860. Both he and his brother, John, were butchers in the Old First Market on 17th Street in Richmond.
