Felix worked as a carpenter and builder. He married Elizabeth Folkes in Richmond on 4 May 1854. After her death, he remarried to Mary Hooker in Richmond on 29 April 1857. They had at least five children: Lucy, John, Benjamin, Felix and a stillborn infant.

Felix enlisted as a Private in Co. "A", 1st Battalion, Local Defense Troops on 18 June 1863, and was later promoted Sergeant. He was detailed to the Confederate States Armory from October through December 1864.

He is buried next to his wife and several children in an unmarked grave in the plot he owned.
