He was absent sick with "carditis" in March-June 1864 and with "debility" in August 1864, and was discharged in January 1865. He was working for the Quartermasters Department in March 1865 as a warehouse clerk. He was described at his discharge as 5' 7" tall, with blue eyes, dark hair and a dark complexion.
He died at his home at 600 W. Clay Street in Richmond of "dysentery", per Cemetery records. His grave in the William Allegre and Anthony Dassory plot, next to his wife, was marked in June 2016 through the efforts of the "Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery."
