Louis was a farmer by trade. He enlisted at age 24 as a Private in Company "A", 6th U.S. Infantry, in St. Louis on 14 January 1835. He was discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Fort Brooks, Florida on 14 January 1838. He was described at enlistment as being 5'6" tall, with grey eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. He married Elizabeth in Richmond on 6 August 1839.

Louis was a party in a widely-reported construction lien case -- Iaege, etc. v. Bossieux -- decided by the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in 1859. As it happens, plaintiff Louis Bossieux is buried about 50 feet away from him.

During the Civil War his son Finton, who owned this plot, served first in the 46th Virginia Infantry and later in the Confederate States Navy.

He died age 65, per Cemetery records, and is buried near Elizabeth and their daughter Annastasia in Finton's plot.
