Dr. Beatie was from Smyth Co., VA and served the Confederate Army as a Pvt., Washington Mounted Rifles (which was later 2nd Co. D, 1st VA Cavalry), as a Hospital Steward, and as a Nurse. He married, Martha Louise "Patty" Overton, 08/27/62, in Cumberland Co, VA. During the war, he died of smallpox in a Richmond, VA, hospital. His son, Walter, was born July 24, 1863, four months after his death. The son's memorial is #94802505. The family surname is spelled as Beatie, Beattie & Beattee in various sources. The physician's middle name was either Sneed or Snead. Dr. Beatie's wife married a Mr. J. T. Morrisette after his death.
