He was born in Trondheim, Norway, and received his schooling there, coming to the U.S. when he was 21 years old.
He settled in the Absarokee area, later moving to the Big Timber area before moving to Belgrade where he has lived for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Belgrade; a daughter, Mrs. Bud (Randi) Simpson, of Bozeman; two sons, Wilbur A. of Missoula and Melvin A. of Belgrade; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
