Pearl was born in Anaconda on Sept. 9, 1912, to John and Nancy (Cousins) Staffanson. The family moved to the Holland Siding near Belgrade in 1918. Pearl graduated from Belgrade High School in 1931. She married Leo Jarboe Feb. 5, 1936, in Seattle. After Leo got out of the Army, the couple established a registered Hereford ranch out of Livingston. They later moved outside Bozeman with their Herefords and then to Manhattan, where she and Leo ranched until their retirement. At that time, they moved into Manhattan.
Pearl went to Dillon Normal School one year. She graduated from the Mary Stone Beauty College in Seattle and worked as a beautician for two years. She was a charter member of the Hereford Auxiliary. She was on a bowling team and enjoyed the Wednesday pinochle games.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence Staffanson, Stanford "Stub" Staffanson and Gene Staffanson; and sister, Martha Edsall.
Pearl is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Loren) Clark of Bellevue, Wash., and their children, Sandy (Chris) Shaw of Issaquah, Wash., and Diane (Jeff) Coblentz of Redmond, Wash. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Joni Staffanson, John Staffanson, Shirley (John) Hart, Everett Edsall, Wayne (Marcia) Edsall, and Lalia (Edward) Covey. She is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Manhattan Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be given to Bozeman Deaconess Hospice or to a charity of choice.
