Jackie was born in Grove Hill,Alabama,to Joe and Victoria Smitherman on Aug. 14,1963..The family relocated to NY in. 1967..Jackie enjoyed a delightful childhood here in Brooklyn.This is where we met in the 7th grade.We ran track together for the Zodiac Track team.Until we graduated from H.S. we were inseparable.We shared clothes,secrets and sometimes boyfriends.( lol )..Jackie enlisted in the Army.After an honorable discharge Jackie went on to study at John Jay College,where I was also a student. She was married in 1983 to Robert Blake. Until her untimely passing she was employed as an executive secretary to Dr.Elijah Pope of the Messiah Baptist Church. The evening of Nov. 16,Jackie's life was taken violently from her in an act of random violence..Jackie will be remembered as a beautiful,high spirited and adventurous young lady,whose time on earth was too brief. Our lives have been enriched by knowing her.Daughter,sister,aunt, cousin and friend-we love and will cherish her always. Jackie leaves to Cherish her memory,her husband, Robert H.Blake,her mother,Frances V.Smitherman,Step-father,Charles Dixon,brothers Archie and Sgt Joe Smtherman,Jr.,step-brother Bert Thomas, Charles Dixon,Jr..2 sisters Roslyn O.Nevels and Willie B.Smitherman,2 sis-inlaws,1 brother-inlaw,5 nieces,1grand-nephew and 1 grand-niece,aunts, uncles,cousins and friends. . She was preceeded in death by her older brother,Stanley M. Smitherman,a veteran of the U.S. Navy in 1993.May they both rest in eternal peace..
