Rifleman

B Company

3rd Battalion

The Rifles

British Army

He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Rfn Allott died from his injuries after a roadside bomb explosion during a foot patrol southwest of Patrol Base Blenheim near Sangin, Helmand province.

Aged 19, from Bournemouth, Dorset. After high school he worked as an apprentice bricklayer and then joined the military in November 2008. Known as "Jonny", he deployed on his first operational tour in September 2009 and proved to be an extremely capable and motivated soldier. Platoon mates recalled his infectious personality, sense of humour and heart of gold.

Rfn Allott is survived by his father Michael, mother Andrea and stepfather Colin Smith, sister Nikki, brothers Daniel and Marc, grandmother Ann, his girlfriend Stephanie Orr and her two children, along with other relatives and friends. His family said that he "died a hero doing the job he loved - he will be sorely missed by the whole family and all who knew him. He had a wish that his brothers could have shared his experiences with him. Jonathon couldn't wait to get home and wear his medal with pride."

Rifleman Allott was repatriated from Afghanistan via RAF Lyneham and was honoured by the people of Royal Wootton Bassett as his cortege passed through the town.

Funeral service was held on March 31, 2010 at St Peter's Church in Bournemouth followed by burial with full military honours at St Andrew's Churchyard in Kinson.
