Francis Leonard Abbe, 91, passed away December 3, 2009 after a long illness. He was born April 12, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio to the late William and Marie Abbe. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1937 and attended Ohio Northern University and the University of Toledo. While in High School, Francis met the love of his life, Bettie, whom he married on May 30, 1941. He served our country in the United States Air Corps during World War II. In 1953, Francis and his father started the William Abbe & Sons Casket Company. They designed and manufactured caskets until the sale of the business in 1973. He and his wife moved to Colony Cove in Ellenton, FL in 1976 where they lived for 28 years before moving to Jacksonville Beach to be closer to family. He volunteered for 15 years with Meals-on-Wheels. Francis is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bettie; daughter, Linda (Joe) Abrass; grandchildren, Steve (Suzette) Abrass and their children Megan and Mallory; Jill (Mac) Easton and their children C.J., Abbe, and Ben all of Atlantic Beach, FL; daughter-in-law, Jan Abbe and her children, Andrea and Evan all of Ohio. Francis was predeceased by his son, Philip. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 9th in the Chapel of Beach United Methodist Church, 425 7th Avenue North Jacksonville Bch, FL with the Rev. Jerry Sweat officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dial-A-Ride, 281 19th Ave. S., Jax Beach, FL 32250. Services under the direction and care of Quinn Shalz, a Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, Fl.
