Mary Ann was the eighth and last child of Thomas Helme and Sarah Williamson who came to America about 1843/5 from Lancashire County, England, but had three children and were living in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England before leaving. They settled in Allegheny City, (across river from Pittsburgh) Pennsylvania where the remaining five children were born. Her father was a rope maker in England and in America.

Mary Ann was small with long red hair. She married William Langeheineken 17 Jan 1872 in Wyandotte County, Kansas. She was a successful farmer's wife and raised seven boys and three girls.
