GALVA - Anna K. Thompson, 68, Galva, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center in Galesburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at St. John's Catholic Church in Galva. Celebrant will be Rev. John Burns. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva, with a rosary being recited at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus or to the American Cancer Society .
Anna was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Calvary, Ky., the daughter of Sherm and Anna Rebecca "Becky" (Spalding) Raley Sr. She married Ronald "Ronnie" Thompson on Jan. 1, 1960, in Galva. He survives, as do a son, Greg (Tracey) Thompson of Galva; a daughter, Christine (David) Weidner of Buda; three brothers, Sherm (Pat) Raley of Galva, Tom (Sandy) Raley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Joe (Vicki) Raley of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, Shirley (Roger) Norberg of Woodhull and Stella (Wendell) Gilbreath and Sharon (Donnie) Milliken, both of Galva; and six grandchildren, Zachary and Whitney Thompson, Colten and Devan Maertens and Regan and Haley Weidner. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jason; and two sisters, Cora Burwell and Becky Holmes.
She had operated a day care for 14 years and had also worked for Lilly-Tulip, the Galva Foundry and the Galva School District for 19 years as a special education bus aid. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid bowler and had competed in several state tournaments. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Belgium. She also thoroughly enjoyed doing things with her family and supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events.
