James Joseph Flynn
August 3, 1930 - November 27, 2013

James Joseph "JJ" Flynn, 83, passed away November 27, 2013, at Regency Village Care Center in Austin, Texas. Also known as "Chief," JJ served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant after serving as NCOIC for the Security Police at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin. A true American veteran hero, JJ was decorated many times throughout his military career, including a Bronze Star during his service in Vietnam.

Leadership was always a natural position for him, serving as captain of the defense for the Thompsonville High School Football team in Connecticut, helping to lead them to the State Championship in 1949. After retiring from the Air Force, JJ served as Captain of Criminal Investigations for the Travis County Sheriff's Department in the late ‘70's and early ‘80's and also worked in security in private industry. Known for his fun-loving sense of humor and strong code of ethics, JJ was beloved and will be greatly missed by all those who worked with him and by his adoring extended family.

He is survived by his sisters Lois Malinguaggio of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Vikki Donor of Windsor, CT; his daughter and son-in-law Pat and Chris Harrison of Austin, TX; his son and daughter-in-law Jay and Catherine Flynn of Kalispell, Montana; four grandsons Ian Flynn, and John, Michael and Peter Harrison. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann (McKedy) Flynn, his mother Mary Chayer, and sisters Roberta Fallon, Candy DiMartino and Amy Rogers.

A dinner to honor JJ will be held this Monday, December 9th at 6 pm at The Emerald restaurant 13614 W Hwy 71 in Austin. Friends and family of JJ are asked to please RSVP for the dinner to Chris Harrison, 512-626-6823.

Burial with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on Tuesday, December 10th at 11 am.
