Donald E. "Don" Lauver, 82, of Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Don was born Sept.21, 1931, in Cocolamus and was raised by his grandparents, Hilary and Mary Leister. On May 2, 1953, he married the former Lorraine Landis who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 60 years.

Don attended Lewistown High School.

He retired from the Air Force. During his service he was a part of the security detail for Air Force One, where he provided security for former presidents and dignitaries. After retiring from the military, he and Lorraine moved to Mount Pleasant Mills. In 1973, he began as an associate with the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Mount Pleasant Mills and Liverpool. He continued working for the funeral homes until his passing.

Don was a member of the Annual Ramey Air Force Base Historical Association, Puerto Rico, Air Force Security Forces Association, San Marcos, Texas, the Liverpool American Legion Post 364, Richfield Ambulance Company, Fremont Fire Company, and was former chairman for Snyder County Democratic Committee.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, bowling, playing cards, horse shoes, and playing sports. He was a real people person and enjoyed joking with them.

In addition to his loving wife, Lorraine, Don is survived by three children and their spouses, Debra Lauver-Jones and Randall, of Mechanicsburg, Michael "Mike" and Christine Lauver, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Donna and Dean Benfer, of Richfield; six grandchildren, Seth Jones, Kyle Jones and wife, Marie, Luke Jones and wife, Stephanie, Jennifer Hinman and husband, Ryan, Devin Hackenberg and wife, Niki, Corey Lauver, and Aaron Benfer; a great-grandson, Easton Hackenberg; a brother, Clarence Weaver, of Milroy; and a sister, Loretta Valtri, of Lewistown.

Don was preceded by a brother, Hubert Weaver.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by the funeral at 11, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. James A. Neimond and Pastor Roger L. Womer officiating.

Burial with full military honors accorded by the Selinsgrove American Legion Victory Post 25 and the Selinsgrove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will be made in Fairview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Don to a charity of the donor's choosing.
