Attorney, Union Civil War Officer. Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, he was the son of Larz and Catherine Longworth Anderson. He was the grandson of Cincinnati's first millionaire, Nicholas Longworth, and the younger brother of Bvt. Brigadier General Nicholas L. Anderson. Anderson became a civil engineer and later studied law and became a lawyer in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the late 1850's, he was appointed to command the 2nd Company of Guthrie Grays, a Cincinnati chapter of Ohio Militia. When the Civil War began in 1861, his company was merged into the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Anderson enlisted as a Corporal and was later promoted to Sergeant and eventually to 2nd Lieutenant of Company A. He was the husband of Julia Worthington Anderson.
