Oliver Thomas Bacon was born in Liberty County, Georgia and was the oldest son of Edwin Henry and Louisa Stevens Bacon. He married Eugenia Jones in 1858 and they had one child prior to the Civil War. He was a plantation owner in Liberty County. He was most likely a member of the Liberty County cavalry before the Civil War but was unable to continue with military duties because of his failing eye sight. During the Civil War, his family moved to southwest Georgia to avoid the Federal Troops. After the Civil War, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he sold life insurance. He and his only child died in 1873 from typhoid fever. After their deaths, his wife Eugenia Jones/Bacon traveled extensively in Europe and later wrote the book "Lyddy".
