Orange, or as he wrote his name, "Orringh,... was a captain in the Revolution, and afterward a General of Militia. He was one of the original members of the Boston Purchase Company, which bought of the State of Massachusetts ten townships of land, containing two hundred and thirty thousand four hundred acres of land, lying with the present counties of Broome and Tioga, N.Y., south of Cortland county,and between the Chenango river and the Owego Creek. He was appointed as one of the commissioners to treaty with the Indians for the cession of their title to the land, and was present and assisting in make the treaty, June 22, 1786."
