Teacher Succumbs
MILWAUKEE (AP)- Funeral
services will be held Tuesday for
Schuyler C. Horton, 91, "the dean
of Milwaukee elementary school
principals," who died Saturday
in a Madison hospital.
Horton taught in Wisconsin
schools for 52 years, 42 of them
in Milwaukee. Before coming to
Milwaukee he taught in rural
and village schools in Wood
County and was principal at
Pittsville.
In Milwaukee, he was principal
of four schools and founded
the Fifth Street Social Center.
When he retired in 1938, he was
believed to be the oldest teacher
in the city's school system. More
than 200 people gathered to pay
tribute "to the man whose life
was devoted to his students."
