Granton, Clark County, Wis. – A mysterious explosion brought quick but terrible death this morning to Louis Rach, cheesemaker at the Lynn factory on Highway 10 within a mile of his home.
Trapped in his sedan by the explosion, Mr. Rach burned to death before help could reach him, and the flames disfigured his body beyond all recognition.
The accident occurred 1 ½ miles east of Granton about 11:30 while Mr. Rach was on his way from the village of Granton. With no apparent cause and without warning an explosion rocked the car and the machine burst into flames.
Neighbors rushed to the scene, Arnold Sternitzky being the first to arrive, but he was unable to get close enough to the blazing machine to aid Mr. Rach.
Sheriff Olson was called from Neillsville and was at the scene of the accident in a short time. He ordered the burned car and its charred occupant to remain untouched until the arrival of Coroner M. C. Rosekrans.
Mr. Rach is survived by his widow and two children, Edgar, 23, and Mildred, 18. For many years he has been a cheesemaker at the Lynn factory, and until a few years ago represented the town of Lynn on the Clark County Board of Supervisors.
