J. D. BARNES
1886 - 1979
John Daniel Barnes Sr, 93, Route 4, Box 206, Ocean Springs, [Vancleave], died Wednesday, Sept 5, 1979, at Singing River Hospital. Mr Barnes was born Feb 13, 1886, in Vancleave and was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. Mr Barnes was one of Jackson County's pioneer families. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr Barnes was the oldest Colonel on the Governor's staff.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs Josephine Havens Barnes, Vancleave; two sons, Eddie W. Barnes and Willie Elmon Barnes, both of Vancleave; two daughters, Mrs Hazel B. McClain, Vancleave and Mrs Fred [Annie Lou] Touchstone, Fort Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs Scott Goff, Vancleave, Mrs Lizzie Miller and Mrs Stella Tillman, both of Mobile; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Visitation will be tonight, Sept 6 at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home from 6 - 9 p m.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept 7, at 10 a m at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vancleave. Mr Barnes will lie in state at the church from 9 a m until funeral time.
Interment will be in the Church Cemetery...
