Carlisle Herbert Barr, 89, passed away Feb. 24, 2016. He was born in Leesville, SC, a son of the late Alba Haynes and James Michael Barr. In addition to his parents, Carlisle was predeceased by his sister: Rebecca Barr Plexico and his brothers: James Michael Barr, Jr. and Dr. Lawson Haynes Barr.

He was a 1950 graduate of the University of SC with a degree in mechanical engineering. Carlisle was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946 after participating in the occupation of Japan. He served in the Army Reserve from 1948-1956.

Carlisle joined the E. I. DuPont Company in 1951 as a design engineer and spent 36 years with that company working on the design and construction of nuclear, fiber and chemical facilities in the U. S. and Europe. Upon retirement Carlisle and his wife, Louetta, moved to Hendersonville, NC where they spent 28 wonderful years. He was a member of the Sand Trappers Golf League and consistently shot his age. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Carlisle was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Newberry and was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Louetta Lightsey Barr; daughters: Rebecca Barr Smoak (Chris) and Kathryn Barr McCartha (Dr. Bob); grandchildren: Dr. Douglas Carlisle McCartha (Mary Catherine) and Frances McCartha Meetze (Kyle); great-grandchildren: Caroline and George McCartha and Lucas and Jacob Meetze; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will follow at 3 PM on Sunday at Central United Methodist Church in Newberry. A private family burial will be held at the Fairfax Town Cemetery, Fairfax, SC. In lieu of flowers please give memorials to a charity of your choice. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel assisted the family.
