He was the son of the late Thomas Perry and Minnie Holman Brandenburg. He was a retired service station owner and operator. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of St. Matthews. He was an Army veteran, serving during WWII.

He was the widower of Mable G. Brandenburg. Survivors include nieces Ann Webster, Olivia Jeffcoat and husband Rick, Mariann Gable and husband Brian; nephews Oeland Shands and wife Linda, Bill DuBose and wife Claudia, Tom Zeigler and wife Donna; and special friend Carmen Stillinger.
