He was a son of the late Albert Burke and Agatha Bealer Burke. He was a U. S. Army/Air Force Veteran and served six years in the military during WWII and the Korean War; 35 years in the National Guard and 10 years in the South Carolina State Guard. He was active in political, fraternal and civic organizations and a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Cayce.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Thelma Motley Burke. Survivors include his daughters: Marian B. Kemmerlin (Larry), Janet Burke of West Columbia and Jean Burke McIntyre (Richard) of Lexington; sons: R. Allan Burke (Mary Less) of West Columbia and David Burke (Leslie) of Chapin; nine grandchildren: Michael Burke, Brian Burke, Chris Heh (Leigh), Leah Bullock, Heather Mann (Curt), Anna Burke (Brent), Sarah Burke, Ashley McIntyre and Zeke McIntyre; seven great-grandchildren: Reagan Burke, Brittany Bullock, Nicholas Bullock, Drayton Heh, Christian Heh, Marissa Mann and Dalton Davis.
