From The Washington Post, June 19, 1957:
Robert Randolph Dye, Northern Virginia real estate developer and former Fairfax County Supervisor, died Monday at his home in Centreville, Va., at the age of 80...
A native of Benning, D.C., Mr. Dye crowded several careers into his long lifetime. He retired in 1941 after 23 years as superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery. In this capacity, he lived for a while in the Lee Mansion while his own quarters were being built.
Both subsequently and before, he was instrumental in the development of Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County subdivisions and in later years had dealt exclusively in Centreville real estate.
Mr. Dye was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, and served on the board of governors of Arlington Hospital. He held his Fairfax County office from 1948 to 1951, when he lost a bid to succeed himself by three votes.
Surviving are his wife, Genevieve, a son, Robert R. Dye Jr.; a daughter, Margaret Troutt, and four grandchildren, all of them nearby in the Virginia area.
