Deputy Sheriff Tim Causey died as the result of smoke inhalation he suffered on March 16th, 2013, after responding to a massive fire in the Windsor Green area.

The fire destroyed 26 different condominium buildings. Deputy Causey responded to assist with securing the scene the night of the fire and for several days following the fire. After becoming ill in the following days, he was diagnosed with smoke inhalation and acute respiratory failure. He was subsequently flown to the Medical University of South Carolina where he remained until passing away on May 19th, 2013.

Deputy Causey had served with the Horry County Sheriff's Office for 25 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Nichols- Timothy E. "Timmy" Causey, 50, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Medical University of South Carolina surrounded by his loving family. He will always be remembered not only as the brave first responder, but also as a dedicated and compassionate officer that loved his family, his Lord, his community, and his job as an officer with the Horry County Sheriff's Department. Timmy's bravery was evident in the time he spent serving his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp, serving his community as a uniformed officer, and continued through the time he spent in the hospital following his illness. Timmy was born in San Francisco, California, the son of Tommy and Mary Elizabeth Lopez Causey. He is survived in addition to his parents of Loris by his wife, Donna Strickland Causey of Nichols; two daughters, Sommer and Taylor Causey of Nichols; a brother, Corbie Causey of Denton, N.C., two sisters, Cathy Causey (Jeff) Page of Dillon and Gail Causey of Loris; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donnie and Shirley Strickland of Nichols; and nieces and nephews, Ken, Frankie, Keri, Ben, Brandon, and Chase. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in the gymnasium of Green Sea Floyds High School directed by Meares Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols. The family suggests that if you would like to remember Timmy that you do so by making a memorial to a charity of one's choice.
