Detective Brent Hanger, a 47 year old Washington State Patrol trooper, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 in the Chinook Pass area. He was born in Sedro-Woolley, WA on January 28, 1968. He spent much of his life in Skagit County. He was hired by the WSP on July 9, 1998 and commissioned on March 1, 1999. He graduated with the 82nd Trooper Basic Training Class and was assigned to District 7 Burlington. He had been a detective for eight years and was assigned to District 7 in Whatcom County his entire career. He was a part of a task force. He was well liked, respected and loyal to his family as well as his WSP family. On November 27, 2000, he received the Award of Merit for assisting in saving the life of a suicidal person. He was loved and will be missed tremendously by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Hanger.

He was a native of Washington and is survived by his wife, Lisa and six children; his mother, Barbara Hanger; sisters: Julia Benson, Marcia (Bob) Carter and Jessica Hanger; brother: Mark (Barbara) Hanger; step-mother: Linda Hanger; nephew: David (Samantha) Kocsis and a host of family and friends.

A public memorial service will be at 1 PM on Tuesday at Skagit Valley College’s Dave Duvall Pavilion in Mount Vernon.

NOTE: A Washington State Patrol trooper, Detective Brent Hanger, 47, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 in the Chinook Pass area. Hanger, of Mount Vernon, was part of a task force following up on a tip about the grow in Yakima County when he apparently suffered a medical condition and died. He was an eight year detective that worked undercover on a statewide drug task force. His body was airlifted by helicopter to an airstrip near State Route 410, then brought to Yakima in a procession of troopers and deputies.
