Rev. Henry M. Griffin, 83, of Swansea, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015. He was a son of the late Henry and Urma Lee Griffin.

He was a member of Dolorosa Worship Center and retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for the City of Columbia Police Department; Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and was the former Chief of Police for the Town of Swansea. Rev. Griffin was ordained in 1969 and pastored various churches throughout the United States.

He loved his grandchildren, was always busy and had some sort of project going; and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by and infant daughter; one brother, Rev. James Griffin; and one sister, Annie Mae Dancha.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil (Moody) Griffin; children, Robin Grinstead, Gary and Charles (Sherri) Griffin; grandchildren, Andrea and Ryan Grinstead, Tyler Griffin, Hilary, Dean and Mason Suber, Ashley and Matthew Griffin; great grandchildren, James and Ryleigh Grinstead; and siblings, Lou McKinney, Erma Amerson, L.B. Griffin and Joyce Orr.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Monday, November 2, 2015 at City of Hope Worship Center (formerly known as West Columbia Church of God), 1403 D Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169. Interment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675; or to the Dolorosa Worship Center, 376 Old Charleston Road, Pelion, SC 29123.
