Timothy James Brackeen, age 38 died Monday, September 12, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born in Fort Knox, Tennessee he was the son of James Allman Brackeen and wife, Phyllis of Savannah GA and Donna Bryan Crotts and husband, Ray of Shelby. Tim was preceded in death by grandparents: Frances Bailey, Melvin Bryan, James Elzie and Seretha Brackeen.

Tim was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as an usher/security team member. He was a K-9 Officer for the Shelby Police Department with his K-9 partner, Ciko. He served the citizens of Shelby for over 12 years. He was passionately committed to being the best K-9 handler he could be. Brackeen was known in the Shelby community for the classes and demonstrations he had done with Ciko. Tim was honored with being presented with the “Officer of the Year” award in 2012. In his spare time Tim enjoyed woodworking and many outdoor activities.

In addition to his parents, Tim is survived by his wife of 18 years: Mikel Raelyn Brackeen; daughter: Daphney Brackeen of the home; brother: Rev. Stephen Brackeen and wife Heather of Shelby; sister: Laura Brackeen Rabon and husband Tim of Raleigh, step-brother: Lt. Col. Ray Crotts and Eunjeong of Germany; step-sister: Angela Alexander of Shelby; mother-in-law: Mary Pace of Trion, GA; grandparents: George Bailey of Shelby and Geneva Mitchell-Stover of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law: Rebekah Moon and husband Randy of Trion GA; many loving nieces and nephews; his K-9 partner, “Ciko”; and his brothers and sisters at the Shelby Police Department.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 3 PM at Keeter Stadium, 230 E Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152 with Rev. Stephen Brackeen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church from 5 PM until 9 PM, the family will not be present.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2016 at 3 PM at Keeter Stadium, 230 E Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152 with Rev. Stephen Brackeen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made: Shelby Police Department K-9 Unit, PO Box 207, Shelby NC 28151. Cecil M Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, Shelby, NC assisted the family with arrangements.
